Save the USPS Postcard Submissions: From now until June 30th, Midway is accepting 6 word stories on a postcard (fiction or nonfiction) and postcard art sent via USPS ONLY. Send your story or art postcards to Midway Journal, PO Box 425882, Cambridge, MA 02142. Unlimited entries–multiple submissions highly, highly encouraged. We will post our favorite stories and works of art in upcoming issues of Midway. You can count this as a publication with us should we select your card art or story (fiction or nonfiction) for an upcoming issue. Remember, you can make your own postcard, so don’t hesitate to be creative. If you have any questions, please contact us at editors@midwayjournal.com, subject: Postcard Submissions. If you want to send a postcard just to say “hi,” feel free to do that too. Don’t forget to include your return address, as we will notify you via USPS if we plan to publish your card. Let’s do our part to save the USPS.

General Submissions:

Midway Journal accepts submissions of aesthetically ambitious work that invokes the colliding and converging energies of the fairgrounds. Midway Journal seeks to publish a variety of styles and diverse voices. We especially welcome marginalized voices and authors from underrepresented communities to submit. We strongly encourage writers to read a few issues of the journal before submitting.

We accept submissions between January 1 and May 31 annually only. Work received outside of this time period will not be read.

We are now accepting submissions through our online submission manager: http://midwayjournal.submittable.com/submit.

Writers are welcome to submit ONCE during each reading period. Please allow a 3-6 month response time before inquiring about work.

There are no page limits or word counts set for individual submissions. Simultaneous submissions accepted. Previously published work is not accepted.

We are offering a new Tip Jar/Expedited reading service to our contributors. For a nominal fee ($2.50), we will guarantee a careful, expedited reading of your work. We still offer a free submissions option, of course, as we understand not everyone can afford to pay every time they submit (nor should they have to), but the works of authors who opt to use the expedited submissions link will be attended to first. All funds from submissions will go toward meeting the rising costs of operating and maintaining the journal.

Poetry:
Please send 3-5 poems in a single document with each poem beginning on a new page (see what we like in Midway Poetry). Poetry manuscripts should be single-spaced.

Prose:
Please send 1 piece of fiction (see Midway Fiction), or 2 pieces of flash, or sudden, fiction, or 1 piece of creative nonfiction (see Midway Nonfiction). Prose manuscripts should be double-spaced.

Art/Ephemera/Mixed-Genre
Please send 3-6 works of art/ephemera (see Midway Art) and 1-4 pieces of mixed genre (see Midway Mixed Genre).

NOTE: We select the subsequent year’s publishing material from each submissions period. The publication schedule is devised after the close of the submissions period (June) and before the start of the new publication year beginning in January.
